Sweaty Start

Scarlet Runner, Sunflowers and Impatiens

The summer heat destroyed my Slow Start habit.  Now that it is cooling off, I’m eager to resume leisurely mornings most days.  This summer the only reasonable time to garden and exercise was in the morning. I grudgingly switched my schedule around to take advantage of the cooler temperatures.  I was still drenched by lunch, thus “Sweaty Start” rather than Slow Start.  https://roaming-nature.com/2025/12/18/slow-start/

Kale, Squash and Shallots

One day each week I drove into town to play Pickleball at 7:30.  Those days my schedule between 6 am and noon would look like this:

Out of bed, sweep floor, and 22 minutes of stretches

Clean toilet and eat breakfast

20 minute drive

Drop off library books

Play Pickleball one hour

Grocery Shopping

Drive home

Garden for 2 hours (harvest, plant, weed, and water)

Hummingbirds love the Scarlet Runner

Once a month we would go camping for 4 to 7 days, usually staying at state parks.

Large Ear of Pungo Creek Butcher Corn

The non-Pickleball, non-Camping days I aimed to be up between 6 and 6:30 and to be done gardening by 11.  While I also took a day of rest each week (https://roaming-nature.com/2025/01/01/day-of-rest/) the summer flew by!
