We have had jaw-dropping scenery throughout the day as we drove the 215 miles between Destruction Bay and Haines. We also saw over 100 Dall Sheep today, which has to be a daily record for us.

We saw 92 sheep at their normal area near Kluane Lake. The group of 20 pictured above were the closest this time. They werw quite a bit further away than this spring, when a few sheep were right in the road. https://roaming-nature.com/2025/04/14/day-14-travel-to-alaska-spring-2025/

We turned south at Haines Junction, Yukon. This is the first time we traveled this section when it wasn’t snow-covered. It is gorgeous every time.

We ended the day in Haines, Alaska. While we have been through the town several times, this is our first time spending the night. Below is the view from our motel room (Captain’s Choice motel). The huge cruise ship in Lynn Canal gives a bit of scale.

Tomorrow we get on the MV Columbia to travel via the Alaska Marine Highway. Tuesday, we will have 2.5 hours in Sitka and hope to find something fun to do in town. Our truck has to remain on the ferry, so that complicates the short visit!

It will take 3 days and 14 hours to reach Bellingham, Washington, where we disembark to continue the long drive. 780 miles of driving finished, about 3100 miles left. We are looking forward to several days on the ferry, making progress while someone else drives.
