Day Six Travel to Alaska Spring 2025

While we traveled over 300 miles towards Alaska,  today was so much more.  We saw Greater Prairie Chickens AND Sharp-tailed Grouse performing on a lek.  We were so close!  If you have a chance to check C’s Facebook, the videos are so cool as they include the sounds and dance moves.  An excerpt of the best video is below:  when you are in a quiet place, be sure to listen to the sounds as well.

We were definitely chilled before we were allowed to leave, but no question, it was worth it.  Great morning!

We planned a relatively short day following time at the blind. However, we were both so tired that west of Jamestown, ND we pulled into a rest stop and both took a nap before continuing.

Mid-afternoon we arrived at Theodore Roosevelt National Park where we went to the visitor center,  then meandered north on the park road to Wind Canyon. We  went for a short hike, then turned around and slowly drove back out.  We saw so much wildlife!

On Wind Canyon Trail from one panoramic spot we could see a dozen bison grazing, turned a bit to see 3 pronghorn walking a ridgeline, turned further to see a small herd of wild horses at a stream, kept spinning to see a town of scampering black-tail prairie dogs, finally turned more to see 2 distant mule deer.  A few steps down the trail, we saw a large flock of Sandhill Cranes as well.

An excellent, exhausting day.  We plan to sleep in tomorrow!
