Day Seven: We have driven 3300 miles from Healy, Alaska and have 1100 miles remaining. We are ready to be home! We left Canada this morning, happy to be back to miles per hour, which we can clearly see on the speedometer. Neither of us can reasonably read the kilometers per hour markings on the truck panel, so we have been using Google Maps on our cell phones to see if we were going the speed limit. Maps would usually show kph rather than mph while in Canada.

Our fun stop was Big Bog State Recreation Area. I climbed the fire tower where I could see wild rice areas on Red Lake. I also saw a bald eagle perched on a snag overlooking the lake. Back on the ground, I saw a grouse and heard a red-breasted nuthatch. C took a nap!

We have been seeing Lake Superior off and on all afternoon, including from Duluth, Minnesota, and Ashland, Wisconsin. We entered Michigan after dark and are staying at the Northwoods Motel for $68. Nothing fancy, but a great deal, and we would definitely stay here again.
