While C was in training, I explored the Palmer area. He joined me on a trip to Reflections Lake after work today. Altogether, I saw 9 Moose, 4 Sandhill Cranes, 3 Bald Eagles, 2 Northern Harriers, 2 Merganser couples, 2 Trumpeter Swan couples, and a Ruffed Grouse.

Palmer has an excellent visitor center/museum, though it must get swamped if a bus stops. I would like to go back when the gardens are blooming.

C wants to return to AK’s Best Phillys to enjoy another cheesy Philly with added reindeer sausage. I enjoyed my supreme gyro from there as well. Hopefully we have another stop at Palmer in our future.

More birding notes: I heard a lot of interesting bird songs and calls while hiking the Palmer Rail Trail. I didn’t see many of them, but according to the Merlin app sound identification there were Dark-eyed Juncos, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Pine Siskin, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Common Ravens, American Robin, Common Redpoll, Black-capped Chickadees, and Black-billed Magpies. What a splendid morning!
