Yesterday we finished Wisconsin, drove across Minnesota, and ended our day in Minot, North Dakota. I hoped we would encounter Spring Migration, and we were thrilled to see a flock of about 80 Snow Geese.

In the foreground of the photo, there is a pair of Canada Geese. We have been seeing couples in many large and small bodies of water since Ohio. I assume most of these pairs have claimed nesting territory and are staying put to raise a family.

Our April road trip this year has been much better than traveling in March last year. We have seen snow each day, but very little and none sticking to the pavement. Catching any of the Spring Migration is great, and hopefully we will see more flocks in the coming days. Last year we were pulling a trailer and camping in the snow in Wisconsin on our 3rd night. https://roaming-nature.com/2023/03/04/day-three-il-to-spring-valley-wi/

The disadvantage of the pleasant weather is keeping our 18 pounds of venison frozen. Last year this was no trouble at all! In 2023, I regretted bringing any canned goods as we needed to bring them into heated areas each night. This year over 3 days we have been watching the temperature in our used Yeti cooler creeping up from 22F to 32F. We pushed on an extra hour last night to get to a hotel with a full-size frig and freezer.

We are just over 1/3 of the total distance and hope to travel the remaining 2700 miles in 8 days. With the 3rd long day in a row and cooking my supper at 9 pm, I was grouchy last night. C, on the other hand, was in a wonderful mood all afternoon and evening. We are lucky to travel well together. It is rare for us both to be in bad mood at the same time.
