Sea Otters in Seward

This evening I watched 2 sea otters for awhile. C pointed out the first one while we were walking. Then he headed further down the beach to fish for salmon.

It is drizzling, a great improvement on the driving rain we have been getting off and on the past 3 days. If it had rained any harder while watching the sea otters I would have left and missed a cool catch. For quite a while they were both coming up with small things to eat as I usually see (probably mussels, clams and sea urchins). Then one surfaced and my initial thought was, “why does he have a bunch of sticks?” Can you guess what it was?

He had 2 crabs! He laid them both on his belly so I could clearly see them. It took him some time to eat one and then the other. So cool!

Puddles were bigger at their worst

The Millers Landing Campground is rather wet, but convenient to fishing – and sea otters!
