Wildlife Babies II, Denali National Park

I saw tiny twin moose calves today! A first for this year.

Today’s mother moose did NOT want her babies out in the open. So the above photo is from last year with a less cautious mother.

2023 mom left her twins in cover

This mom wanted a drink, but kept coming back whenever her calves tried to leave cover to follow her. The twins were really tiny. She went back & forth several times. Once she was almost drinking when a calf started to come out. She RAN back & must have laid down the law because next time they barely moved. She drank for a long time.

It was a great shuttle to and from Savage River – the rain didn’t deter the animals at all. I saw 5 moose, 2 caribou, 8 Dall sheep, 2 porcupines, and once again the Savage River Harlequin duck couple.
