Denali Night, Moon and Moose

Full Moon at Denali National Park

It was a full moon last night, so we went into the Park when we would usually be getting ready for bed.

Pregnant cow moose?

We heard more Ptarmigan than we saw. C’s Facebook page has a video posted where you can hear them!

Ptarmigan & Mountains, 10:15 p.m.

Once the moon came up, it stayed close to the horizon, appearing to rise & set repeatedly as we drove through the mountains.

Full moon, 10:30 p.m.

The park road is temporarily open to the public all of way to mile 30, Teklanika River – we were thrilled to drive further into the park.

Nautical twilight started at 11:40. It is bright enough that you can see why we technically don’t have any night

Midnight Moon, Denali National Park

We were back home yawning at 1 a.m. Glorious night even if we didn’t get the hoped for sight of Denali herself glistening in the moonlight.

  1. Very nice twilight drive! The moose look healthy! Ptarmigan are getting their summer colors. So sad you didn’t get a look at Denali at full
moon. There is such a small area where you can see the mountain driving in the park. The best view is the Princess at Denali State Park.

    1. Yes, it is neat watching the Ptarmigan turn colors. Thanks for the suggestion on viewing Denali!
