Dancing Cranes, Migration

Trumpeter Swans
Sandhill Cranes at Creamer’s Field

Spring migration at Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge has been amazing.   I am not really a birder, but love watching them when it is this convenient & dramatic. The above video shows 2 sandhill cranes dancing (courtship? territorial?). Below there are a couple cranes along with other species.

At least 3 species

Every visit I have watched Trumpeter Swans, White-fronted Geese and lots of Canadian Geese.  It is noisy with hundreds of birds.

White-fronted Goose, a first for me

During our week in Fairbanks I have stopped in at the refuge once or twice every day.  The first 3 times I only saw cranes once, but since then I have seen them every time.

  2. […] I doubt April will ever be a top month for visiting Alaska, but for a few it might be their perfect month. If you are in Fairbanks late in the month have even a tiny interest in birds, be sure to go to Creamer’s Field to see the spring migration of Sandhill Cranes and other birds. Dancing Cranes, Migration – Me & C (roaming-nature.com) […]
