Wow!  While we had brief glimpses of the aurora borealis on a couple occasions while traveling,  last night was a particularly impressive display.

Thanks to a good aurora forecast, we had set an alarm & planned to drive to nearby Otto Lake at midnight. Fortunately C woke up at 11 and looked out the window!

The remaining photos are from Otto Lake with C’s phone. Note that a camera with a night setting such as his provides aurora photos more vivid than we could see with the naked eye. Reds were particularly faint without the camera.

Amazing!!! We were surprised that the lights were all around us, not just to the North.

    So cool! The aurora was actually visible down here in Luray yesterday, but not nearly as bright. Thanks for the great pictures!

      Glad the skies were clear enough to enjoy in Luray too! I am curious how you knew to look for it. We haven’t figured out TV or radio yet, maybe it has been on the news….The Kp index was high last night. We have been looking at the Kp forecast several times a day.         Thanks for the links! I just stumbled on them last night because it was hot and I was outside unwrapping the air conditioner at 11:30 pm!

      Perhaps this is a life lesson, embrace the cold, dark & unknown to occasionally be rewarded with great beauty. You two have certainly found great rewards in embracing the unknown, though in Cambodia you had to push through the heat, not the cold 🙂
