Roaming: Shenandoah River to the Alaska Range

Snowshoes,  Day 2 in Healy

First day waking up in our cabin and using the outhouse at 13F.  Lucky it is this warm!  Another gorgeous, sunny day.  We mixed being productive with having fun.

Snow is so dry, still sink to the knees

Saw a flock of around 20 Ptarmigan in their winter white.  Only one would stand still for a photo.

One of the productive tasks was getting the car battery from the heated garage where it spent the winter, reinstalling it, and freeing the car from the snow.  It seems to be running well, so C is planning to drive it to work tomorrow.

    Loved the Ptarmigan photo!

    You might need to find a way to heat the privy. Got enough sun yet for a solar panel?

      While we have sun for over 12 hours per day, the privy is shaded by trees. We have thought about using our little propane heater. So far we are braving the cold. Sometimes I burn the toilet paper in the metal bucket to give an illusion of heat.
