We woke up at the western end of Washington State, and have stopped driving just shy of Spokane, near the eastern border.

This morning, we got off the ferry and drove to North Cascades National Park. It was beautiful, though hazy with smoke, and busy.

After visiting North Cascades in the morning, the impressive Grand Coulee Dam was an unexpected bonus along the route that afternoon. We also saw Chief Joseph Dam. The Columbia River sure has some big dams!

It was over 80 degrees most of the afternoon. For people who have been in Alaska all summer, this is uncomfortably hot. I couldn’t drink enough and developed a mild headache. Hopefully, it doesn’t get any hotter for at least the next 5 days so we can adapt.

Tomorrow we will cross Idaho and end the day somewhere in Montana.
