Glaciers and WEIO

Glacier above Williwaw Campground

We finally made a trip to Portage Glacier, staying 2 nights at nearby Williwaw Campground.  Thanks to lovely weather, we saw many glaciers.   The above glacier and waterfalls  were visible from the campground.

We took the $49 per person glacier cruise out to see Portage Glacier.   It has receded significantly since 1986 when I last saw it (then you didn’t need a boat).  The trip was well worth the price.

We actually had a sunny day in Whittier.   That is rare!

Glacier and Fishing in Whittier

Today I was surprised to be at the World Eskimo Indian Olympics!   When C made his Fairbanks doctor appointment, I thought the 2025 competition had been earlier in the month.   At breakfast this morning, I overheard someone talking about WEIO and looked it up – today was day 3 of 4.

Today’s events will begin soon

C dropped me off before his appointment, and I was able to attend WEIO from 10 until 5.  C was kind enough to run all of our errands after his appointments.  Lucky me!

Two Foot High Kick, Women

The photo below is well before the officials pulled the ladders out as the ball is raised so high!  I especially enjoyed the high kick events in 2023 when my parents and I attended WEIO for 3 days.  https://roaming-nature.com/2023/07/16/weio/

We are having an amazing summer, though it is going by so fast.
