We are enjoying viewing wildlife and scenery in and around Denali National Park. Snow is disappearing rapidly, though every few days we get fresh snow that doesn’t last long.

We finally saw our first caribou of 2025, just above Teklanika River. There were 2 mature females. One of these had large antlers for a female, including a shovel (brow palm). There was also a yearling with little antlers. The youngster could be a male or female and should shed its antlers soon.

Mature male caribou lose their antlers in late fall, after the rut. Pregnant females shed their antlers around the time they give birth in late spring.

April 24: saw 10 Dall Sheep with no worthwhile photos

April 25, Denali Park Road opened to Teklanika, also went to Stampede and Lignite: 5 Moose, a Northern Hawk Owl, the first Arctic Ground Squirrel of the season, a Snowshoe Hare, and 6 Willow Ptarmagin.

April 26: 7 Dall Sheep and our Snowshoe Hare

April 27: Ten mile ATV ride with cool cliff but no critters

April 28: 3 Caribou, 3 Moose, 2 Dall Sheep, 16 Ptarmagin, our Snowshoe Hare

April 29: our Snowshoe Hare (plus C saw 3 Swans that I missed)
