We had a record moose day yesterday! We have never seen so many in one day. Our first moose was on Stampede Road just 15 minutes after leaving the house, and the last was on our road, 5 minutes from home.

The other 25 moose were all in Denali National Park. Eleven were in sight of Mountain Vista Trail. Three of these were so close to the trail that we almost needed to turn around rather than continuing the loop.

The remaining 14 were all near Park Road. Roughly guessing where they were on the road: there were 11 moose around mile 12; 2 around mile 7, and 1 around mile 5.

I have never seen so many moose so close together. At times we could see 9 from one spot. It was a calm mix of cows, bulls, and a 2 year old. (It is hard to say how many are actually in the photo above, probably at least 5, but only 2 are obvious as most are lying down.)

The young moose pictured above crossed the road in front of us. While we were turned to the left watching him, we were suddenly surprised to see his mama just 20 feet in front of our car.

Now that it was nearing the 9:42 sunset, we hung around to see if we could catch an alpenglow off of Denali. C got some gorgeous photos with the closer peaks no longer getting the sun while The Great One was glistening in the distance.
