Day 14 Travel to Alaska Spring 2025

We started the day on the Alaska  Marine Highway,  then drove the Haines Highway until it intersected with the Alaska (Alcan) Highway, continuing from Haines Junction to Kluane Lake.   We drove just over 200 miles after getting off the ferry, staying at one of our favorite places, Talbot Arm Motel in Destruction Bay,  Yukon.

We got up at 6 am to enjoy a couple hours of scenery and whale watching.  Lots of gorgeous scenery,  but no marine mammals.   (Though if we had stayed onboard 9 more hours, we would have seen Orcas, as my parents did).

We did have a beautiful drive with variable conditions.  Sun and dry pavement through Alaska.  This changed to slush then snow after we crossed the border into Canada.

Shortly after seeing the Ptarmagin pictured above, we took an hour nap in the snow, waking up to clearer conditions and beautiful peaks that had been hidden in the low clouds.  By the time we were at Kluane, we had cold, clear conditions with temperatures around freezing.

Ten of the 16 Dall Sheep that we saw were very cooperative!  We also saw a moose earlier in our drive.

Tomorrow we travel the roughest section of the Alcan, crossing the border back into Alaska after another 120 miles of Canada.
