Day Five Bluestem Prairie Spring 2025

We took the day off today to prepare for our Blind Date tomorrow morning.

Western Meadowlarks today

After lounging around all morning, we drove out to Bluestem Prairie.  It was warm and sunny today, and the snow wasn’t bad.  My knee did pretty well on the 0.5 mile hike to and from the blind.

I took photos in the middle of the trail where I could barely see the blind behind me when I could see the truck ahead.  We saw Sandhill Cranes and other interesting birds, as well as deer.

Tomorrow, we will get up by 4 to eat, pack, check out, and leave by 5.  Sunrise is at 6:56, so that should give us time to get to the blind an hour before sunrise.

The birds aren’t supposed to ever know we are there, so we quietly hide before they show up, until after ALL of the birds leave (probably between 8 and 9:30 am).  The forecast is for 25F (-4C) and calm wind, which isn’t bad, but we will probably get cold sitting still in a small box for 3+ hours.
