My side of the family met in Alabama this January.  We stayed near the beach in Gulf Shores for 4 days.  One day we all took the ferry over to Dauphin Island for lunch and to enjoy the Aquarium there.

After the rest of the family left, C and I spent a couple more days in the area.  We visited the USS Alabama site near Mobile and toured the National Naval Aviation Museum near Pensacola.   Both are worthwhile.

Next we stayed on Dauphin Island for 2 nights where I did a lot of birding.   This island is definitely worth a visit if you like birds!  During our time in Alabama I added 14 species to the life list that I started last year. 

As a federal employee, the last month has been crazy for C.  I am glad I retired a year ago!  We start traveling back to Alaska in 4 weeks.
