Day Six: we have now traveled 2800 miles from Healy, Alaska and have 1600 to go. We will cross into the United States tomorrow at the Warroad, Minnesota border crossing.

Our fun stop for the day was Portage Spillway Provincal Park, which surprised us by having thousands of birds. We saw a White Pelican, a Wood Duck, a dozen Double-crested Cormorant, and thousands of various Geese, Ducks and Gulls.

This morning I checked in our cooler, which we have mostly been keeping closed. We still have a decent chunk of the iceberg Charlie harvested out of Sheridan Lake near Cordova, Alaska. Compacted glacier ice seems to last longer than regular ice.

We got the chunk of ice to keep our salmon cold while staying in dry cabins around Cordova. (https://roaming-nature.com/2024/09/20/whittier-and-cordova-a-few-highlights/ ). Since the ice outlasted our Cordova trip and our 2 days packing, we are using it to keep the cooler cold on our way to Virginia.

Tonight we are spending $87 to stay at the Sleep Suite Motel in Steinbach, Manitoba. We would certainly stay here again if in the area, and probably also visit the nearby Mennonite Heritage Village.
