As we traveled today we moved from relatively remote back to full blown development. Back to the land of traffic, cell service, fast food and subdivisions. I find it jarring and am sad we no longer have the chance to see a caribou. Still, there were other things to enjoy…

Our travel plan is to drive 6 “Google map” hours per day, which always takes us longer than 6 hours. I usually have a fun stop planned (usually a natural feature). For example, we have stopped at glaciers, salmon spawning streams, and yesterday some hoodoos. Today I didn’t have a plan, but when we both needed to pee, I noticed a small park and natural area were nearby and we ended up exploring the Kleskun Hills for an hour.

The lure of dinosaur remnants drew us, but the only dinosaur we could find was on the sign. I still enjoyed the eclectic stop with the badlands, prairie, pockets of fall colors, historic buildings, and old farm implements.
During the day we finished the Alcan and picked up speed as we hit Alberta highways (110 kph speed limit!) Wildlife sightings for the day were 24 deer (mix of mule deer and whitetail), 3 coyote, Sandhill Cranes, and a gigantic flock of Canadian Geese. I had a delicious donair for dinner – it was similar to the shawarmas we enjoyed in St Martin (and that C also enjoyed in Saudi Arabia). We have an excellent, reasonably priced room at Western Budget #3, would definitely stay here again.
