Day 8, Toad River to Pink Mountain

I woke up to a family of Trumpeter Swans 50 yards from our cabin at Toad River Lodge.   So awesome!  I watched them a long time while C slept in.

Cygnets look as big as their parents!

The white parents and 3 grey cygnets fed together.   The parents did a lot of the churning work while the cygnets and some opportunistic ducks mainly ate what floated to the surface.

Swans on Reflection Lake

When we arrived last night the swans were sleeping on an island and we could only see 2 young ones.

On our drive this morning we saw 6 caribou including the caribou calf I had been hoping to see all year.  I didn’t get any good photos of the caribou but the fall colors are nice!

We also saw a moose and 3 deer, (probably whitetail).  We haven’t seen a deer since early March!

Tonight we are staying at Sasquatch Crossing Lodge in Pink Mountain, built in the 1920’s.   The stairs are steep!  The owners also run 2 nearby man camps and the Buffalo Inn, catering primarily to oil and gas workers, but also tourists.
