When we visited our relatives on the Kenai back in July, our kind hostess offered a variety of enticing activities.   C laughingly told her what he really wanted was to sit in their living room recliner for awhile. Ahhhh, upholstery! 

Now that we are leaving soon, we have been mentioning some things we have been missing.  While hot running water at a sink is top of the list, comfy furniture is right up there.  We are also looking forward to regular stairs as opposed to the ladder-like access to our bedroom.

Part of the joy of roughing it is truly appreciating the luxuries when they return for a time – couch, bath, garden, mirrors, sofa. The rapidly cooling temperatures, falling leaves, and morning ice also have me eager to migrate south. And yet, a tiny part of me is sad we will miss the cold beauty of a Denali winter.
