Exit Glacier, Kenai Fjords NP

August 10 Melissa worked in a.m. then we drove south to Montana Creek.  Lots of pinks and chum, not many coho though we saw someone catch one.  C caught and released 2 pink.  We were torn but decided to head further south and set up camp at Sheep Creek Slough.

August 11, lots of casting, C caught one coho and I caught and released a chum.  Then switched to fresh chum roe bait.  In 5 casts we caught 3 coho!  The last two were hooked deep so we didn’t release any, limiting out at our 2 coho each.  Fortunately a friendly fisherman let us use his freezer.   Ate half of the smallest salmon for supper (C even liked it!) and left 3.5 in the freezer,  so starting over on our possession limit.

August 12 I stuck with bait all day at Sheep Creek Slough, while C switched back and forth between bait and lures.   I caught 3 coho, releasing 2.  C caught 4 coho releasing 3.  Rain was heavier today, but we are having so much fun!  Ate half of today’s smallest salmon, 1.5 in the cooler.

August 13 leisurely camp breakfast then drove to Seward.   Camping and fishing at Miller’s Landing.  C caught and released a small sculpin.

South of Seward

August 14 fishing and scenic driving around Seward.  C caught and released 3 pink and 2 sculpin. I came close several times but caught nothing. But I did get some good photos of adorable little Marbled Murrelets which was a challenge.  Disappointed that we didn’t see any sea otters but C has an idea for breakfast tomorrow.

Marbled Murrelet, excellent diver

August 15  watched a sea otter eat his breakfast while we ate ours outdoors overlooking Resurrection Bay.   Then made the long, rainy drive back to Healy, picking up our frozen fish on the way.
