July 24 to 26 Alaska had thousands of ground lightening strikes which started many fires, including some just north of Healy (Anderson area) and around Fairbanks. C and his helicopter have been busy! Below are his photos showing what they did to protect some infrastructure one day.

The windy conditions were lousy for a back burn, especially in the middle of the tundra with no roads. They needed 2 helicopters making bucket drops as they lit.

They flew off hoping that when the main fire got there it would hit the black and go around the structures. (Both of the above photos were as they left.)

Success! The next day they came back. The structures were saved!
