WEIO

Blanket Toss Prelims

I met my parents in Fairbanks and we attended 3 days of the World Eskimo Indian Olympics.   It was wonderful!

One foot high kick (Canadian style)

I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of high kick events.   So many impressive athletes doing the seemingly impossible.   And we loved the way other contestants would offer tips to their competitors,  with everyone appearing to genuinely encourage others to reach their potential even it is cost them a medal.

Excited Baby Regalia contestant

Lots of cool handmade regalia.  Unfortunately I didn’t get many good photos.  This little gal took off rather than keep to her slow ‘parade’ walk just as I took my photo.

Dancing interspersed throughout

One response to “WEIO”

  1. […] The World Eskimo Indian Olympics (WEIO) is a fabulous annual event in Fairbanks, Alaska. I highly recommend this to anyone who can fit it into their schedule. The daytime events (often preliminaries) are free. There is an entrance fee for the evening events. There are lots of other activities in Fairbanks, so if you can, spend at least 3 days there during the WEIO. Hopefully I will go again (this year and/or next) and get some better photos! Here was my post: https://roaming-nature.com/2023/07/16/weio/ […]
