Stand-up, Week 3 in Healy

Why didn’t I get one of these years ago? Almost every day I am using my SUPD. This would have been great on those boundary water canoe trips in the 80’s, backpacking in the 90’s, & traveling in India. I would have used it frequently on trail crew, search and rescue, and wildland firefighting once I started working for the National Park Service in 1996.

No mention was made on those gear lists “what to pack for a fire assignment”. I hope that has changed these days, even though persons anatomically designed to easily pee standing up are statistically more likely to be composing the gear lists.

P-Style Stand-Up to Pee Device (on cabin stairs)

My SUPD (SPD, FUD) allows me to easily pee in a bottle when I need to go in the middle of the night. Game changer! No going down the ladder-like stairs in the middle of the night. No looking for moose, wolves and bears on the dark path to the privy. Just pee in the bottle, cap it tightly, and dump it in the morning.

There are many options in the $10 to $30 range. After reading lots of reviews I choose the P-style & have liked it so much I haven’t bothered trying anything else. I was prepared to get a different one if it didn’t fit me.

If you ever work or play outdoors and can’t already pee standing up, get a device!  Great for a dry cabin too!

A few helpful hints: First try it in the shower to get comfortable with how it works without fear of peeing on your clothes or the floor. Wash it with the laundry to easily keep it clean. I like a device that also lets you wipe, thereby needing little if any toilet paper. If you want to pee indoors, a 32 oz bottle with a 2 inch opening & a handle is ideal for capturing the pee.
