Over 4800 miles and the travel portion of the journey is over! Our last tourist photo is at North Pole, Alaska ( a real town, but not at the real north pole). We saw 2 coyotes after leaving Delta Junction, the only wildlife today other than birds.

As we approached Fairbanks it felt like we are on home turf, as this is where we do our shopping, doctor visits, etc. Today we bought a few groceries (that could either safely freeze, or would be eaten in a few days), C got his second shingles vaccine, and we had the oil changed in the truck. Without knowing the condition of the cabin, we didn’t feel we could really stock up on food, even though groceries are much cheaper in Fairbanks.
Two hours additional driving and we were checking into Totem Inn before driving to check out the cabin. We were incredibly fortunate that the state had plowed past the “end of state maintenance” sign. Next we were lucky that someone has been taking a snowmobile down the unplowed fork in the road.

It was relatively easy walking down the packed snow, but much more strenuous once we hit the pristine snow of our driveway. C sank comically deep, above his knees. Unfortunately my hands were full & I didn’t take any photos until we did some digging.

Even more good news, the electricity was on, the heat seems to work, and there was no noticeable problems with the structures. It was 7F in the cabin when we arrived and 37F when we left. Hopefully it is at least 60F when we move in tomorrow.
